An Open Letter from Shakti Community Council

The Shakti family is very concerned by the allegations of abuse in its workplace, made by an anonymous source. The issues raised, in particular allegations of abuse in the workplace, are deeply concerning and disturbing for an organization committed to empowering women and children in breaking free from abuse

Our team is led by ethnic women for ethnic women and each year, Shakti assists hundreds of women and children to break free from the cycle of abuse and live a life of dignity, free from fear and violence. The staff and volunteers of Shakti are dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights of both women and children, and advocating social change.

We recognize that flaws may develop in any organizational system. We also understand that the nature of our work is such that we will have detractors from time to time. We are committed to our beliefs, but also to improving and addressing any issues whenever they are brought to our attention. We have a robust complaints management policy, approved by government departments that has enabled us to address internal issues successfully in our 25 years of service.

If in spite of our best attempts, you have been left feeling aggrieved, we would like to reach out to you.

To the person who has posted this anonymous complaint, we extend our open invitation to engage and discuss, so that your concerns can be resolved. We assure you that your concerns will be reviewed and addressed by an external committee and be dealt with in confidence. We want to heal any unintended rift and are reaching out to you. We urge you to engage, if not for the organization you have left, please do so for the hundreds of women and children who rely on Shakti’s services to help them to a better and safer life.
